About Us
Vakaola - Pacific Community Health is a community mental health support provider which operates two offices Lower Hutt and Porirua. It is contracted by Capital & Coast DHB and Hutt Valley DHB to deliver community mental health support service to service users primarily Pacific people and others.Furthermore, Vakaola is contracted by the Ministry of Health to deliver Like Minds Like Mine services to reduce the stigma of mental illness and the discrimination that people with experience of mental illness face everyday in the community.
Vakaola delivers a free support service and aims to meet the community mental health support needs of the Pacific people by providing a quality support service. It has a holistic approach encompassing but not restricted to mental, socio-cultural, spiritual support and the best health outcomes of Pacific Island peoples and others.
People may be referred to Vakaola through the following:
- Community mental health teams
- Family Doctors
- Families
- Self referral
- Service Users
- Other government & health agencies

- Like Minds Like Mine is to counter stigma and discrimination against people with experience of mental illness.
- Quality community support and advocacy for clientele and their families.
- Activities which are educational, raises personal self-esteem, encourages healthy lifestyles etc.
