Welcome
About Us
Pacific Health Service Porirua (PHSP) was established in 2001, and was part of the devolution process under Porirua Union and Community Health Service. PHSP is one of three member services of Porirua Health Plus PHO, and has very close working relationships with both the PHO, and all of its providers. PHSP achieved Te Wana Accreditation at the end of 2005.
Our Mission Statement:
"To provide an efficient and effective service which is culturally appropriate, safe and sensitive to Pacific peoples needs."
Our Core Values:
| Respect | - | We will treat everyone with respect |
| Dignity | - | We will treat everyone with dignity |
| Traditions | - | We will uphold the traditional and cultural values of our diverse communities |
| Beliefs | - | Our principle beliefs are based on "Faith, Hope, Trust, Spirituality, and Humility". |
| Approach | - | We take the holistic approach and understand that to improve the health of our people, we need to address health and social issues that affect the Aiga (family), and not one person. |
Guiding Principles and Service Delivery
We provide the service under the following guiding principles and contractual obligations:
Improve access for Pacific Island peoples to primary general medical services, which are affordable and culturally appropriate.
Improved understanding by Pacific Island peoples of their health problems, including;
- How these problems may be prevented
- The need for early detection
- The treatment required once the problem presents
- The treatment will be explained in a manner that is understood
Increase the knowledge of the Pacific Island family and community about which health services are available to them;
- How they may access services
- The costs of accessing services
- How they may assist in the management of their treatments
Pacific Health Service Porirua prides itself on its strong linkages with the Pacific Community through weekly fonos with ethnic specific groups. We acknowledge the Treaty of Waitangi and work in partnership through providing services side by side with Maraeroa Marae Health Clinic and maintain good relationships with Ora Toa Heatlh.
The organisation is governed by community leaders from the seven main Pacific Islands. Also sitting on the governance board is an Associate member from Mana Whenua.
